You have a problem with your insurance company

Many insurance problems can be resolved by raising the matter directly with the insurance company, preferably with a clear written description and copies of the relevant policy documents.

Health insurance responsibilities

Health insurance has separate areas of responsibility. The Federal Office of Public Health is responsible for social health insurance, including compulsory basic insurance and daily-benefit insurance under the Health Insurance Act. SFMA is responsible for private, non-social insurance, especially supplementary health insurance under the Insurance Contract Act.

Supplementary health insurance

For supplementary health insurance, SFMA carries out preventive product control. Tariffs and general policy conditions used in Switzerland for supplementary insurance to social health insurance must be reviewed and approved before use.

What support is possible

SFMA acts against abuse in the insurance sector where policyholders or beneficiaries are repeatedly disadvantaged, many clients may be affected, or materially unequal treatment lacks a legal or actuarial basis. Civil-law disputes between insurers and policyholders remain for the competent dispute-resolution bodies and courts.
